Living beside the third longest river in Africa doesn’t guarantee access to drinking water. An estimated 110 million people live along the Niger river but in Mali, a landlocked country, the Niger River is a lifeline, however it can bring also death and disease.

Lacking sanitation, humans directly pollute the water resources and intensive agriculture affects the inner delta in the center of of this sahelian country. The result of this sanitation problem is that water-related diseases, including cholera, diarrhea and guinea worm disease. It account for more than 80 percent of all illnesses in Mali and are especially common for very young children.
