This is a teaser of a 7 minute video for the Humanitarian Aid & Civil Protection of European Commission (ECHO) about the permanent emergency in Sahel Region. Over the last decade, four successive food crises have affected up to 18 million people in the Sahel. Hunger and malnutrition have now become a permanent emergency. Since 2012, the AGIR alliance aims to break this cycle of emergency by addressing its causes and reinforcing the resilience of the most vulnerable people. In the field we see best practices being multiplied. By displaying resolve and coordinated action across the region we can guarantee a dignified future for the people of the Sahel. Finished in April 2010 as dreamt by Senegalese president Abdoulaye Wade, it is the world’s biggest bronze statue. But most people in Dakar were not happy about it as it cost a fortune. Created in 2006, SenCirk, one of the rarest circus companies in Africa has changed the lives of dozens of youngsters. Modou, originally from Gambia, was living on the streets before the circus sunk its teeth into him. Today he is a troupe leader and helps to train the next generation of circus acts. Casamance is a isolated region in the south of Senegal, rich in natural resources but struggled economically. Among Gambia and Guinea borders, this region has been suffering 3 decades of fight of armed movement seeking the independence of the region. The conflict began on 1982, when a peaceful protest was brutally repressed. Several hundred people then withdrew to the forest and started the rebellion. Since then, tensions between rebel leaders have divided the movement into different factions, but the fighting against the Senegalese army continues. Over the years this silent conflict has killed over 5000 people, including 800 victims of anti personnel mines planted by both sides and  it has displaced tens of thousands of others.
